WASHINGTON (AFP) - former U.S. First Lady Laura Bush said Friday that she spoke for the first time with democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi Myanmar and called a "champion inspiration for human freedom".

"This morning I spoke for the first time with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi." "I was pleased to hear the loud voice and enthusiasm as a source of inspiration for human liberty champion", Laura Bush said in a release.

"She never lost faith or ceased to believe in a free Burma". "I am encouraged Daw Suu has been released and look forward to the day where she and her beloved country population live in freedom," said Bush.

Suu Kyi has spent 15 21 years locked, was released by military rulers in Myanmar from its most recent stretch of seven years of detention on November 13.

Administration of U.S. President Barack Obama launched a dialogue with the Myanmar military leaders after the conclusion that West tries to isolate the regime had little success last year.

But he said that it will be only lifted sanctions in return for progress in democracy and other concerns.

After years of punitive measures against generals ruling Suu Kyi has shown signs of softening its position on the measures, even though she has said little about the issue since its release.

Suu Kyi has had welcomed the renewed u.s. with Myanmar commitment, but warns against the "rose colored glasses", saying more human rights and economic progress are still required.

His party won 1990 elections, but was never allowed to take power.
