Steele decision comes after the reverse (Atlantic)

December 13, 2010, Republican National Committee Chairman of 11: 45 AM and Michael Steele, will make an announcement that he would seek a second term featured Monday night, ending months of speculation about the controversial President the future at a time where allies began to seek alternative solutions.

Actual decision Steele remained a closely guarded secret. Even his top advisors, both inside and outside the Commission, said that they don't know what direction it will take. But a series of high-level defections has undermined the coalition that Steele elected in 2009, suggesting his path to another term, if he decides to run for the election on 14 January, will be difficult.

During his tenure, Steele has grown approximately 30 Councillors, voting RSS, 168 Members Circle used non-official link for the rest of the Commission. But the circle has decreased in recent weeks, as formerly close allies have begun to inform Steele would return no longer has his candidacy.

The most visible defection came earlier this month, when the Republican Party of Wisconsin President Reince Priebus said that he would go to top of place himself part. Priebus served closest ally Steele 2009 submission and Steele rewarded the Priebus support by the appointing General Counsel. Priebus smoking than this month.

Priebus application created a hole in Steele kitchen cabinet. So far, at least five unique supporters Steele publicly stated that they will be back President of Wisconsin.

Other candidates have also taken the some support Steele. State of Michigan former Party Chairman Saul Anuzis enjoys a support group of Delaware Chair Tom Ross, who served as a whip Steele counting vote team in 2009. And Tennessee RNC Member John Ryder, Steele appointed to serve on various committees key, former RNC Co-Chair Ann Wagner. The staff of Steele has defected. former Director of policy CDN Gentry Collins works for the President himself.

But Steele Allied has always believed that they started their campaign at least 18 85 votes needed to secure a victory thanks to the commitment of the President to involve traditionally neglected outlying areas. The NRC provides the same number of votes for these territories - Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico - as it does for a State. Traditionally, these territories, accompanied by Hawaii vote in 18-vote block that provides the power where they might otherwise have none.

Steele is are rendered in the territories of fundraising, sent the money to help the parties local and even hired a consultant of the Islands, far more than any former President has done. But he cannot rely on their unanimous vote. the Puerto Rico delegation headed by Governor Luis Fortuno won't vote for Steele, they told the Committee of the allies.

In the meantime, even support for the State of origin of Steele is in doubt. Over the weekend, alloy Steele Mary Kane has lost his candidacy to become a Maryland State Chairman of the party, falling to tea party-backed competitor Alex Mooney. Mooney said Marylanders that he will not vote for Steele, say sources in Washington State and Maryland.

Mandate of Steele was marked by bumps in the road and scratched relationships with members of the Committee and with the members of the Republican leadership in Congress. But his team has bragged about the role of the RSS by electing Republicans across the country, and excellent performance of the party in the election of 2010 had some believers Steele deserves the same credit as Republican chairmem which the head of the party House, Senate and Governors of the campaign committees.

Still a month and a half after the elections which would send the Republican majority in the House, all signs point to the departure of Steele. He has not set up the kind of campaign team that should be a robust, re-election effort although this could probably be done within a few days. And he has spent much of the last month of the fifth trip to Italy for a ceremony that the Catholic Archbishop of Washington the College of Cardinals.

But the Board members who want to see Steele go see him as unpredictable, dangerous character in an adversary. Many were telephone calls end Sunday, bent on are as possible to move the output Steele.
