WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President Barack Obama counter-terrorism Senior Advisor Friday said he was convinced that "appropriate resources" were in place to deal with the risk of holiday season terror attacks.
However, John Brennan has warned that Al-Qaeda was still on strike at the United States and the community in the fight against terrorism has been especially vigilant because of the increased holiday season travel.
"In light of concerns about possible threats in Europe and elsewhere, we always stay on our guard," Brennan said after a speech at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington.
"This is one of the things on the community in the fight against terrorism-(it) is 24/7.". The holidays are an extension of this attention 24/7.
"If anything, intensify us it during this period because of the volume increased travel." But at this stage, I felt good that we have in place appropriate resources.
Brennan recalled that cooking dinner for Christmas last year, when he was warned by the White House to an attempt by a Nigerian man to shoot down a U.S. jet headed to Detroit with a bomb sewn in his underwear.
The attack was attributed to oriented Yemen al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula.
